Did you experience trauma in your past, and even though months, years, or decades have gone by, you still find yourself feeling unsafe and on guard - that constant underlying feeling that 'something is wrong', even when logically you know you are safe now?
You are probably high functioning in many parts of your life - you are well regarded in your work and in your community, you are able to outwardly manage the various demands life throws at you and still, you find yourself thinking 'if only they knew'...
If I were to ask 'who are you?' you might find this a really difficult question to answer, because for a long time, in your efforts to survive, you had to disconnect from yourself.
Maybe you struggle in relationships with others - you may keep people at a distance or on the other hand, perhaps you hold on too tightly.
You might experience unexplained pain or tension in your body, or feel so numb you cannot connect to your body at all.
Your emotions can feel so huge and overwhelming, you find yourself going between highly emotional states and complete numbness at other times.
You may have seen counsellors or psychologists before, talked about your past and learned new skills, but it still feels like something is missing. Like a part of you still has not been seen and acknowledged, even after all this time and all this work.
If you recognize yourself in any or all of these descriptions, you are not alone.
I see how exhausted you are. How scary it is to live in a body that doesn't feel like your own. How out of control your thoughts and emotions can feel.
I see how strong you are, how capable, talented, funny, insightful. How you have overcome so much already, and mostly on your own. I admire your resilience and I know there is infinite wisdom stored in your mind and body, just waiting to be acknowledged.
